A 78-year-old woman died after she was pulled from a fire in her building in Hyde Park. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the woman was rescued from a unit of a two-story apartment building and was transported to a nearby hospital. She arrived in critical condition and then later succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Five units were damaged in the fire – two heavily burned. Investigators are continually looking into how and where the fire originated and it is unclear if the units had functional smoke alarms. No other injuries were reported in the accident.
As we reported a few weeks ago, having functional smoke alarms can make a huge difference when it comes to life and death situations.
