La Habra, CA – A 24-year-old woman was sentenced to seven years in state prison after running a red light in La Habra, leaving one dead and one injured. Caroline Sujin Kim plead guilty to one felony count of manslaughter, evading a peace officer while driving recklessly, and hit-and-run causing permanent injury or death. Our accident attorney reports that the sentence was enhanced for fleeing the scene of the crime after committing vehicular manslaughter.
In 2013 Kim crashed into 38-year-old Sandra Cellabos and 43-year-old Michelle M. who were crossing the street at a crosswalk on the corner of Whittier Boulevard and Rigsby Street in La Habra.
According to the police report, Sandra Cellabos was hurled over the hood and roof of the car before falling back into the road. Cellabos was pronounced dead an hour after the accident.
Kim fled the scene and led police on a high-speed chase. She was going 80 mph for several miles. She crashed her car into a parked car in Hacienda Heights and was arrested at the scene.
